Affordable ways to give your home a ‘space lift’
Ok, let's get all official over here….case study 😉: Five years ago you decorated your 7 year old daughters bedroom. You did an adorable pinky princess vibe and she loved it. Five years on, she's 12 going on 20 and no longer into the princess scene….now what?!
Well, there's lots of small ways to spruce up your space without breaking the bank. A room is made up of lots of small details that are part of creating the style. Changing them up can change the whole atmosphere of the room.
Spruce #1 - Wall Treatments
Changing up your walls can make a room feel fresh and new. It sounds like a big deal but when you break it down, it can actually be pretty doable and inexpensive - especially in relation to the effect it can have on the room.
Let's start with the most obvious one…paint. Full room or accent wall, you can go as far as you like and the options are endless.
Next we've got wallpaper. You could find a fun, colorful patterned wallpaper, and put it up on one accent wall. It'll make the room less little girly and more trendy. Just make sure it goes with the color of the other three walls, either by choosing a paper with completely different coloring or one that has a little bit of the paint color in the mix.
Another great option is wall stickers, they're super affordable, easy to put up and really fun. For a boho style, stick up black floral stickers on the light pink walls and the room goes from princess vibes to boho chic vibe. You could find some ornate stickers for a vintage look, or grafitti style stickers for a retro look….basically you can go wherever you want!
Spruce #2 - Handles
Switching your closet handles is a great, inexpensive way to give your bedroom a ‘space lift'. Replacing the pink sparkly closet handles with new ones to fit the look you're going for can make such a difference to the room.
You can get sleek modern handles for a more mature style, or bronze, antique-y handles for vintage vibes. And it's so easy to do! Just make sure to measure the existing handles so you buy the right size.
Spruce #3 - Textiles
Oh the options are endless!! You've got rugs, blinds, curtains, throw blankets, throw pillows, linens…you get the picture!
Just changing up the bed linen can give the room a whole new feel! Add in a rug and a cool beanbag, and you're halfway there!
(In case you just thought, “a rug?!? Have you totally lost it? I have enough to do without having to worry about my 12 year old staining her rug!”…enter - washable rugs!! Yup, they go straight in the washing machine! You're welcome.)
Spruce #4 - Decor
Last but by no means least…accessorizing the room! Accessories won't change up the vibe on their own but they do a great ‘backup singer' job!
If you're going in the modern minimalistic direction, you can get some inexpensive abstract artwork to put up on the walls, maybe a clean cut, sleek desk and chair.
If you're going for a vintage feel, you could get an antique mirror with distressed glass and hang it over a vintage chest of drawers.
There's so many ways to revamp a room, above are just some ideas but there's millions more out there…just get creative and have fun!
